Annandale is a quaint community that is home to approximately 45,000 people. It is a city that is known for being a great place to live in or to visit. Annandale offers a diverse population, plenty of beauty and opportunities for outdoor recreation, and close proximity to a lot of other thriving communities, too. Washington, DC is located just a few miles away, in the northeastern direction.

Due to Annandale’s scenic location, it isn’t hard to believe that the area offers a lot of things to do that involve outdoor recreation. No matter what time of year that you are looking for something to do in the Annandale area, you will find plenty of things to see and do in the region.

One place that is of great interest is the Oak Hill Plantation House. Although this privately-owned property is only open to the public a few times a year, it is a destination that provides a look into the rich history of the area. Oak Hill is known for being one of the oldest homes in Fairfax County. Thomas Jefferson stayed at Oak Hill on several occasions during his Presidential period. Originally built in 1790, Oak Hill has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a timelessly classic house and is a nice place to experience history and appreciate a time from long ago.

Mason District Park is a wonderfully welcoming park that beckons for people to come outside and enjoy the beauty of nature all around them. Visitors can peruse the findings at the local Farmer’s Market, when available, and people of all ages can find engaging things to do, while in Mason District Park. Walking trails, playground equipment, soccer and baseball fields, and picnic tables can be enjoyed here, as well as viewing wildlife in the area and skipping stones across the pond.

Green Spring Gardens is located in nearby Alexandria, which is slightly east of Annandale. This public park area includes an 18th-century plantation home that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The beautiful garden is peaceful and relaxing, as well as the many ponds, the gazebo, and the greenhouse which is home to a variety of tropical plants. Many photographers like to perform photography sessions on the grounds of the Green Spring Gardens.

Lastly, Lake Accotink Park is another place that should not be missed when you are in the Annandale area. This park is actually located in North Springfield, which is a community that is just south of Annandale. Lake Accotink is comprised of 55 acres, and the surrounding park property is approximately 493 acres. The lake is a very serene area, mainly due to the fact that no gas-powered boats are permitted on the lake. A park boathouse offers rentals, such as; canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, rowboats, bicycles, and other fulfilling outdoor recreational equipment. The boathouse also has a snack bar, where visitors can purchase food and/or drinks for their welcoming day at the park.

As you can see, then Annandale area has much to offer to people of all ages. If you are a visitor or a resident of the area, you will find that there is much to explore, and to appreciate, in this beautiful region.
